The temporary closure of Sandridge L.S.C. in 2003 demonstrated just how fragile these organisations can be despite the concerted effort of a dedicated few.

Life Saving Clubs, just like the beach itself, are an integral part of Australian life, yet many are endangered because of rising costs and increasingly hectic working lives. Such clubs can provide a focus for the community, a release from the pace of modern living and a safe and enjoyable environment for local people to meet and enjoy the beauty of Australia's coast and waters.

Yet in order for them to do so, they need more than the desire of a committed few, they need to be embraced by their community. And this is not just about money (though every little bit helps), it's about time. For Sandridge to flourish it needs people. People to help run the day to day business of the club, people to gain their lifesaving qualifications, people to patrol the beach, even people to run the sausage sizzles. People just like you.

So if you are interested in donating your time to the club, why not drop us an email at the following address:

Facilities Upgrade Appeal

What is this appeal for?

Sandridge Life Saving Club has a 25 year old building with limited storage for patrol equipment and minimal space for lifesaver training. Currently, the storage space does not allow us to safely store our rescue equipment, including IRB’s, engines and fuel. In addition, we have a number of training craft that are delicately balanced in our main social function room which limits our ability to function as a club on a day to day basis.

The proposed building redevelopment will address all of these issues, including a safe fence surrounding the clubhouse to ensure our members and equipment are protected.

How will the funds be used?

The recent erection of the Life Saving Victoria Headquarters next to Sandridge LSC, gives us the opportunity to develop our building into part of a broader lifesaving precinct for social gatherings, community training, sporting clubs and emergency service provision. This redevelopment of our building will make our club the premier patrolling and sporting training venue in Victoria, encouraging visitors from across the state and accommodating the needs of the local community.

Key areas of expenditure for funds donated:

  • Shade sail erected for outdoor training area
  • Restructure of interior storage design
  • Repaint
  • Redevelopment of garden storage area
