Sandridge LSC to host 2009 Westpac Victorian Junior Lifesaving Championships
The largest event on the Victorian lifesaving calendar is coming to Sandridge LSC.
Over 1000 competitors from over 30 clubs from all corners of the state will converge onto Sandridge beach for 2 action packed days of competition on Saturday 7th – Sunday 8th March 2009 to battle it out in the Victorian Junior Lifesaving Championships.
Easily the biggest event ever to hit Sandridge, the Championships is sure to put the club on the map as a premier venue in Victoria as well as highlight the progression the club has made in its resurrection over the last 4 years.
"This will be a real challenge for our club." Sandridge President, Malcolm Freake, commented. "This will be a big test for us, and we will need help from all our members, our local rotary club and support from all other clubs in the movement."

Sandridge wins District Patrol Competition!
In what can only be described as a truly phenomenal performance, Sandridge LSC has staged a remarkable turnaround to leap from last position in the Port Phillip District Patrol Efficiency Competition, to Champions in just one season. Floundering at the bottom of the 7 club table in 2006-07, Sandridge experienced an amazing growth in Active Membership in season 2007-08, coupled with a new approach towards patrols saw Sandridge come out on top in this year's competition. The terrific result also included a rise from last (46th) to 20th in the State Competition, the biggest improvement of any club in Victoria.
All patrolling members are to be congratulated on this outstanding effort, especially to those who were present during the random audits that count towards the competition.
Let's aim to go back to back in 2008-09 and break into the top ten for the state.

August Bronze Medallion Squad
Our first Bronze squad for the season has already been run with 6 new members being awarded with their Bronze Medallions. Big congratulations to them all, we look forward to these new members joining us on the beach for patrols this summer:
| Miranda Ball | Rohan Macdonald |
| John Dolan | Patrick Welham |
| Hedley Jackson | Heather Whitaker |
Course instructor, Banjo Anderson, was heard to have said "the 6 that we put through their exam on Saturday were the best 6 candidates I've ever been involved with". Sounds like a great addition to our club.
Well done and thank you to Banjo and his team of Sean Lawler, David Hysen, Imogen Dingle, Ned Douglas and Amanda McPherson for working tirelessly to ensure the course was a success and the candidates breezed through their exam.

Winter BBQ
The Sandridge BBQ held on the 26th August was a great success. Many of the fantastic club members along with others who have a keen interest in the Ridge came along for a relaxing afternoon of sausages, salads, bread and cheeky Banjo's mum's 'delightful' blueberry scones - which can now exclusively be revealed actually came from Bakers Delight!
The rain held off and the wind was cool but there was an air of excitement and enthusiasm for the future of the club including the coming patrol season. The 240 The Boulevard location was decorated with some lovely Sandridge paraphernalia such as vintage caps and some old slightly stretched blue and red bathers which provided many laughs and inspiration for future competitors.
Thank you to all who attended and enjoyed the day. If you couldn't make it to this BBQ and are most highly likely feeling a little disappointed, don't worry because we look forward to having more BBQ's in the future and seeing you there, particularly at the AGM on September 20.

Nippers & Age Managers Forums
With the exciting news that Sandridge will be commencing a Nipper Program this season comes the requirement for Age Managers within the club. Age Managers are the members (parents and other helpers) who assist in running different activities throughout the Nipper Program. Age Managers are important to the successful conduct of Nippers and to the safety of lifesaving activities at our club.
These forums have been set up by Life Saving Victoria to encourage any active member wanting to be involved with Nippers this year to attend, learn more and use the day as a networking opportunity. There will be time to liaise with other clubs to share ideas on making Nippers a safe and fun experience for new and existing members.
These forums will also provide an opportunity for members to complete their Age Managers Accreditation.
