Phillip Young Selected For LSV U/17 Leadership Development Camp
Sandridge member, Phillip Young, was selected to represent the club at this year’s U/17 Leadership Development Camp at Life Saving Victoria. Phill joined Sandridge last year through the Year 9 Advance Squad from Berwick Secondary College. Congratulations to Phill on his selection. Here’s what he had to say about his time at the camp:
On Wednesday 2nd July, I attended the Life Saving Victoria U17 Leadership and Development Program 2008 at LSV headquarters with 19 other guys and girls. The programs three days were packed with guest speakers and activities.
We listened to guest speakers including the North Melbourne Football Club’s High Fitness Trainer Ray Breed and a few of LSV’s own top committee members and media officers. We set out into the city on an Amazing Race, we were given a set of clues to find places and things around the city, we also had specific places (Melbourne Central) to be at a certain time, once there we were given a group task (everyone) in Melbourne Central under the clock, we had to clear an area and jump rope in our groups, we had all levels watching and taking photos of us!
It was an AWESOME three days and I’m glad I went.
Phillip Young

New Soft Rescue Boards
Sandridge LSC was successful in its application to the Volunteer Small Equipment Grants presented by the Department of Families, Community Services & Indigenous Affairs. We managed to secure funding for 2 new Dolphin Soft Rescue Boards.
The new boards will be instrumental in the training of new members, allowing them to gain confidence paddling a soft board before graduating to the traditional fibreglass model. The boards will also allow an easier transition for Nippers to Lifesavers, are less expensive and require much less maintenance than the traditional fibreglass boards.
So get down to the club and give these new boards a test run today.
